Instructions
Win the Deal
Each player draws a card, the player who draws the lowest card is the opening dealer. The player that draws the high card is the scorekeeper until the end of the game. Shuffle the deck; deal all cards facedown evenly to all players. Place the Junipoak Card in the center of play, either side up or down. Each Player draws four cards from the cards dealt to them. The remaining cards for each player become the individual players draw pile for the game. After each game, the scorekepper tracks the points of each player. It can, and most likely will, take numerous rounds until a player reaches 100 or goes over 100.
Begin Play (Start Counting)
The player to the left of the dealer begins first. They must have a #1 card to open the board. If they have a #1 card, then they can continue to play the board in numerical order; i.e. 1-2-3-4 stacking the cards on top of each other in the center of the players, using any combination of cards needed to increase the count in consecutive order. If the first player does not have a #1 card to open the board, they must draw a card from their pile and pass the play to the person to their left. That player can open the board if they have a #1 card. If the second player does not have a #1 card, then the game proceeds to the next person until the #1 card is played.
Once the #1 card is played, the counting begins! 2-3-4-5…16-17-18 etc. You can use any combination of cards, no matter how many as long as it adds up to the next consecutive number that should be played. If you cannot play, you must draw one card from your draw pile resulting in more than 4 cards in your hand and then the next player plays. If you can play from your 4 cards, play and draw cards from your draw pile ensuring you have at least 4 cards in your hand at all times until you can’t play. During your turn, you can play multiple cards totaling the next consecutive number, up until the cards in your hand cannot make the next consecutive number needed to be played on the board.
Once you cannot play the board with the cards in your hand, pick one more card before passing to the next person to play. The card picked before passing cannot be played until it is your turn again unless you have less than 4 cards in your hand.
Object (To Junipoak)
Go around the table until the first person uses their entire draw pile. The first player to have no draw pile says out loud… “Junipoak” and retrieves the Junipoak card from the center of players, this keeps track of who ends the game. If that person has more than four cards in their hand they must say “Junipoak Draw” and place the Junipoak card on the table with the Junipoak Draw side up. The round then continues as normal. If they have less than four cards in their hand, they must say “Junipoak No-Draw” turning the Junipoak to Junipoak No-Draw.
If the first player to use all their draw cards doesn’t say Junipoak, and passes the play, another player can say Junipoak resluting in +5 points being added to the score of player who was supposed to say “Junipoak”, and -5 points for person who busted them for not calling it before passing. The game continues on until play is back to the Junipoak player. If the Junipoak player can continue to play the game, the game continues until the Junipoak can no longer play their cards. Once the Junipoak player has less than 4 cards in their hand, all other players must stop drawing cards from their draw piles playing only the cards in their hand. The round ends once the Junipoak player can no longer play. That does not mean that they win!
Going Out (out numbered)
Once the round ends, the Junipoak player will total all of his/her cards then all players will subtract the total points of the Junipoak hand from the total points in their hand, resulting in each players point total. You can start the scoring with a negative number and the person to go out first can end up with the highest point value. As you continue to play, this will fluctuate. First player to 100 points loses the game.
Scoring
First player to 100 points loses game.
All cards are face value
“Lucky Shamrock Card” equals 10 points (+ or -)
See Variation Game for Lucky Shamrock
| Examples of Scoring: | Player 1 | Player 2 | Player 3 | Player 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| (Round 1) | -12 | 20 | 17 | 28 |
| (Round 2) | 17 | -6 | 23 | 15 |
| (Round 3) | 35 | 40 | 30 | 27 |
| (Round 4) | 28 | 19 | -20 | 33 |
| (Total) | 68 | 73 | 50 | 103 |
If all players end up with no draw pile, the player that has the Junipoak card is whose hand gets subtracted from the other players. Then each player tallies the remaining cards held in their hand to get their score.
All players subtract Junipoak’s hand to score their points. If a player is lucky enough to run out of cards before all play stops that player or players subtract the winner’s hand from his/her score.
Variation
Add the “Lucky Shamrock” card to the deck before dealing. After all cards are dealt out, turn last card over on board. This will be the beginning number:
EXAMPLE: If the #9 card is turned over, the player to the dealer’s left must be able to lay down the #10 with any combination of cards from any combination of cards (no matter how many) from their hand. If the dealer turns up the “Lucky Shamrock Card” for center play they can choose the starting number to begin the count, prior to looking at their hand. They also subtract 10 points from their score. If you are caught with the “Lucky Shamrock Card” in your hand when time to score, you must add 10 points to your score.
When using the “Luck Shamrock” card in play it can be used as a #1 through #10 card.
